the orange breakfast

The orange breakfast

I always try to add as many veggies and/or fruits depending on the meal, and I get off the table when I am satisfied and I do not feel hungry yet.

Apricots are still a huge hit here in Zürich and they’re yummy and pulpy so why not enjoying till the season will bring us something new?
For this breakfast, I have decided to combine apricots with turmeric and almond milk for a fresh smoothie.
I love eating fruit in the morning now, definitely something I have not appreciated till recently: I have also been told that taking fruit as first thing at breakfast prepares the stomach to more complex food, which is great.

Hubby prepared some buckwheat rolls the day before and I used them in the morning with smoked salmon.
I have added a few nuts (cashews and hazelnuts, less than a fist) on the plate but just a little because they are good fat but still quite high in calorie intake.
I never count calories since I have started my journey to health.

I do look at what I eat in terms of quality, I always try to add as many veggies and/or fruits depending on the meal, and I get off the table when I am satisfied and I do not feel hungry yet.
This way I will be satiated till the next feast with no problem at all.

Last but not the least, another fresh apricot to savor because summer has to appreciate it as much as we can!

So you see, you’ve got everything on the plate: carbs, proteins, fats, and fruit.
Read my post here about how I divide the portions.

About the rest of the day: this breakfast represents a rich start for my day, therefore, my lunch will be kind of the same as breakfast in quality and quantity and my dinner will be very light, very often with the exclusion of carbs and small portions of veggies and nuts.

Again, this is me and I am not a nutritionist: please go and see one if you know or feel you require a different approach to me. Or you are just curious about the simple rules that could make your life better when at the table!

In the meantime, if you would like to obtain other ideas for breakfast or on the lookout for a specialist, please feel free to drop me a line.
As I already stated in my previous post, I see a nutritionist in Zürich, Tatiana Gaudimonte of Love Your Body, who I highly recommend.

For inspirations about healthy food, I refer mainly to two blogs: one is Cristina of Good Food Lab wholegrain breadfor her thoroughly researches, passions and detailed information about nutrients (although she is not a food specialist) and the other one is Naturalmente Buono, Sicilian mother, and daughter featuring the richest, healthiest and most colourful meals ever!

Note: Cristina does not translate her blog posts in English but she knows it very well so please feel free to drop her a line to know more about a recipe you see!

About the coffee: I prepare it with my moka while I’m getting ready for breakfast but I tend to sip it with calm after my breakfast. Sometimes I do that, sometimes I don’t.
Depends on what is on the plate too: how can you resist coffee with a nice banana pancake?

Hope you like this brekkie version, happy to read your thoughts.

Till next week,
xo, Chiara
